Mooglie joins forces with French singer-songwriter Noémie Cruse to reimagine Oby Onyioha’s classic ‘Enjoy Your Life’, blending pop house, nu-disco and live instrumentation into a warm, feel-good record built for the dancefloor and long summer nights. In our latest interview, Mooglie takes us behind the making of the track and reflects on his journey from Pop-Rock and Indie into Electronic music.
Before we dive into “Enjoy Your Life”, could you each tell us a little about your musical worlds and how your individual journeys brought you together for this collaboration?
I’ve known and worked with Noémie for quite a few years now. We first collaborated on Spacer, and everything happened so naturally that I always knew we’d make another record together at some point.
I actually met her through Agoria, who’s been like a big brother to me since I released my first EP as Mooglie on his label, Sapiens. He had already worked with Noémie on several records, so when we were looking for the right voice for Spacer, he immediately suggested her. It couldn’t have been a better fit. Since then we’ve built a really easy creative relationship, where ideas flow naturally and nothing ever feels forced.
How did the idea to reinterpret Oby Onyioha’s classic “Enjoy Your Life” first come about, and what does the original mean to each of you personally?
To be honest, I only discovered the original a few months ago. The funny thing is that as soon as I heard it, I immediately knew I wanted to make something with it. I downloaded the track and started working on an edit the same day.
The first version came together in just a few hours, and that very weekend &ME started playing it. That gave me the feeling that there was something special about it. From there, I didn’t just want to make a club edit—I wanted to reinterpret the song in our own way, especially the vocals. So I sent the idea to Noémie, and she was immediately on board.
What made pop house and nu-disco feel like the right direction for this particular reinterpretation?
Because that’s honestly the music I enjoy making the most.
I love combining organic instruments, live performances and songwriting with the groove and energy of house music. My background is in pop-rock bands, so guitars, bass lines and real musicians are still a huge part of the way I think about music. At the same time, I spend my weekends in clubs and festivals, so I naturally want my records to work on a dancefloor too.
For me, this track is exactly where those two worlds meet.
Was the collaboration developed together in the studio, or did you exchange ideas and recordings remotely?
Once we decided to do the record together, we did everything in person.
All the vocal sessions happened in Paris, in the studio. We really enjoy working face-to-face because it’s much easier to react to ideas instantly, try different things and build the song together rather than sending files back and forth.
Can you take us through how the track evolved from the initial idea into the finished record? Were there any unexpected decisions or happy accidents that helped shape it?
The first demo came together really quickly, but the final version took much more work.
I brought in Andreas Salon and Dylan Amsellem, who are two incredible musicians, and probably the best ones I know. I also work with them in my pop-rock project, so we already have a great musical chemistry.
Together, we replayed every instrument that we felt was essential to the spirit of the original. We didn’t want to simply sample it—we wanted to rebuild it from scratch. The goal was always to respect the identity of the original while making it sound cleaner, warmer and more suited to today’s clubs.
How did your respective musical backgrounds complement one another throughout the creative process?
I think Noémie has this incredibly hypnotic voice. It’s soulful, elegant and naturally sensual, which brought exactly the freshness the song needed.
On my side, I focused on creating an arrangement that would work on a dancefloor while keeping the emotion and musicality of the original. I think that’s what made the collaboration work so well, we were both serving the same song from different angles.
Mooglie, analog warmth is an important part of your sound. Which instruments, synths or production techniques were central to creating the track’s character?
One thing that’s quite special about this record is that we didn’t use any samples or virtual instruments. Everything was replayed and recorded in the studio with Andreas and Dylan.
That was really important to me because I wanted to approach the song the same way records like this used to be made, piece by piece, with real musicians playing together.
That’s actually how I make almost all of my music. I love the imperfections of live instruments. Every take is slightly different, and that’s what gives a record its personality. You simply can’t recreate that with loops or presets.
How does this release connect with your wider journey from playing guitar and bass in pop-rock and indie bands to producing electronic music?
In a way, this record perfectly sums up my musical journey.
I started playing guitar and bass in indie and pop-rock bands long before I got into electronic music. Even today, those influences are still present in almost everything I produce.
House music gave me a new language, but I never wanted to leave my roots behind. Enjoy Your Life feels like a balance between those two worlds: the songwriting and live instrumentation I grew up with, combined with the energy and groove of electronic music.
Away from music, what has been bringing you joy or inspiring you lately?
I’m definitely a summer person, so honestly, just being outside inspires me and the weather of course helps to bring both joy and inspiration equally! 🙏🏻
