Well that’s it from us for this week – it is unbelievable that 9/11 was a quarter of a century ago. I asked my son what it was the other day and he said “the number to call the police” (which is also depressing given he lives in the UK. I fear the next time there’s an emergency he may not be much use). ANYWAY, we head into the weekend with a new track from Nate Amos aka This is Lorelei (i before e except after c and this is lorelei) which is taken from his new album The Singer in My Band which is out today on Matador. We haven’t covered it yet, our review is on the way, but how’s this as a recommendation from CRACK: “A nimble-footed mix of Americana, alt-rock and folk-pop, featuring indelible songwriting that combines the guitar chops of Elliott Smith with the breezy melodicism of Stephen Malkmus and the narrative yet economical lyricism of Warren Zevon”. The sprightly new song arrives with a video directed by Spencer Kelly that follows a group of kids as they root for their favourite demolition derby racer. “’The Kid With the Crown’ is the opposite of ‘Oh No Now My’ in that it was plucked and preserved at an early age. The album needed an untied shoelace and this is what I came up with,” Nate Amos says of the track.
This Is Lorelei today also announce a 2027 spring European tour, to be followed by a standalone London show on June 23rd at The Roundhouse. Tickets for the new dates go on general sale September 16th at 10am BST here. Before that, the band will touch down in the UK and Ireland in November as part of a global tour supporting the album, with most of the dates now sold out.
