Toronto alternative R&B and funk artist Kalisway returns with her new album UNSTOPPABLE, a twelve-track project that feels like a clear step into a more confident and creatively liberated chapter.
Inspired in part by a transformative trip to Japan, the album finds Kalisway reflecting on personal growth, relationships and the process of becoming more comfortable with who she is. That honesty runs through the project, with the artist taking greater control of both her writing and production while allowing herself the freedom to experiment.
The album opens with the classic R&B textures of “PUT IT DOWN”, before the shimmering title track “UNSTOPPABLE” brings silky harmonies and a self-assured energy to the forefront. “KNOW MY NAME” settles into a warm, infectious groove, while “YOU AND ME”, featuring Reuben Vincent, closes the record with a blend of soaring vocals and charismatic rap.
UNSTOPPABLE follows a productive period for Kalisway, who released Take Me Back (World Of Eras) in 2025 before dropping the acclaimed Who Is Kalisway. Tracks including “CAN’T TELL ME NOTHING” and “BA BUMPIN” have now racked up millions of streams, contributing to more than 10 million Spotify streams across her catalogue.
Her momentum has also translated to the stage, including performances in front of crowds exceeding 40,000 and a headline appearance at Toronto’s New Year’s Eve countdown. With support from the likes of Billboard, COLORS, CLASH, The Line of Best Fit, Notion, Wonderland, The FADER and Hunger, Kalisway is increasingly establishing herself as one of the more intriguing voices in alternative R&B.
With UNSTOPPABLE, she sounds increasingly comfortable blurring the boundaries between R&B, funk and contemporary soul, resulting in a record that feels both personal and assured. It’s another strong statement from an artist clearly finding her own lane and, as the title suggests, showing few signs of slowing down.
Kalisway sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:
1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?
My mom and dad exposed me to lots of music as a child. I really enjoyed going on late night drives, especially with my dad and listening to Snoop Dogg, Erykah Badu, Pharrell and any type of music that made me feel something. I felt that spark that I loved music once I turned about 10. I’ve always had photos of me dancing and singing music from a little kid, but at 10, I think that was the time that I knew music was my passion — I bought FL Studio and I haven’t turned back since.
2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?
I really really really am influenced and inspired by Missy Elliott, Pharrell, and Janet Jackson. Those are the artists that I grew up on, but also they expressed an extreme amount of individuality and uniqueness that I very much connect with. I would love to work with Pharrell, I love his sound selection. I love his beats in general and the space that he adds into his arrangements.
3.What projects do you have coming up and can you give us any info on them?
Yes, my next project coming up is called “Unstoppable”. It releases on September 18th. 12 tracks all produced and written by me. I’m very proud of it because it took me about a year to dive in and create this world that I wanted to make feel like the 2000s with a hint of the 90s and I definitely know that I achieved that. I am excited for everyone to hear what I’ve been working on for the past year and I’m excited to also have this show on the 19th to celebrate this album because I put so much work into it.
4. How would you describe your sound?
To be honest, I remember starting out as an artist I would describe my music as funk and R&B, the most simplest description. But my music is more complex than that. I truly believe that my sound is actually a feeling. It feels like you’re listening to palm trees. It feels like you’re at the beach on a sunny day. It feels like you’re looking at a sunset. It feels like when a Lowrider is cruising on La Brea and you see it with the top down. I try to capture moments. That’s what my music feels like.
5. What’s your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?
Last year performing for the city of Toronto ‘s New Year’s Eve show. That was really big for me and it made me really appreciate how much work that I’ve done in the city but also it gave me the ability to look back at everything that I’ve done from 2020 till now. I recognize that my city actually sees me. And that means so much. I’m so proud of everything that I’ve done and to be able to perform for my city to 10,000+ people that’s something that I was scared to do when I started out as an artist and now I’m doing it with no fear in mind.
