British electronic music pioneer Dave Angel releases his most personal and musically expansive album to date, ‘A Time And Place’, via the seminal Belgian label R&S Records.
Marking a significant return to the label with which Dave’s relationship spans more than 30 years, the album reconnects with the Jazz, Soul and improvisational influences that shaped his musical upbringing, while drawing on decades of experience within electronic music, rave culture and the communities around it.
‘A Time And Place’ is a deeply reflective body of work rooted in family, heritage, nature and lived experience. Across the album, Dave explores intimate personal stories alongside wider themes surrounding humanity, society and the changing world around us.
The album’s opening single, ‘Réflexion’, featuring celebrated trumpeter Steve Waterman, introduced the jazz-influenced and deeply human side of the project. Waterman’s distinctive, Miles Davis-inspired tone adds another dimension to Dave’s production, reflecting the musical influences that have been present throughout his life.
The second single, ‘Apocalypse’, moves into darker and more contemplative territory, reflecting on humanity, the planet and the turbulent events unfolding around us. Built around a compelling vocal sample referencing the movement of the Earth, Adam and Eve, and the impact of life on human beings, the track expands the album’s themes from personal reflection towards broader questions about the world we inhabit.
The album also features collaborations with legendary vocalist Robert Owens, guitarist Merv Carswell and Aurii Sky, contributing to a rich and varied musical palette that reaches beyond the electronic music Dave is best known for.
‘A Time And Place’ represents a reconnection with Dave’s musical foundations while continuing the creative journey that has made him one of the UK’s pioneering electronic artists, bringing together Jazz, Soul, heritage, personal experience and contemporary reflection across a deeply considered new album.
