Something for the weekend: The Decemberists The Better Part Of Bravery

Well that’s it from us for this week. Apologies for those of you who look forward to the Daily Digest emails landing in your inboxes every morning – we have an elf who sets his alarm for 4am every day to get them sent out who became ill for a few days (or alternatively we had server issues). Normal service will be resumed hopefully tomorrow. Don’t forget we still have some tickets left (28 now!) for our 25-year anniversary event which comes to two stages across Liverpool’s Rough Trade venue and Quaker Meeting House next month with performances from Chuck Prophet and the Echo Strings, Steve Wynn, Dean Owens and the Often Herd among others. Tickets are on sale from this link. We’d love to see you there.

We leave you anyway this week with a track from the new upcoming animated film Wildwood based on the 2011 novel by Colin Meloy, a movie which closes with this terrific song by Oregon’s indie-folkers The Decemberists. The Better Part of Bravery is the band’s first new track in two years. “Wildwood has been part of my life for many years, and seeing the story transformed like this has been an extraordinary experience,” Meloy said in a statement. “Writing the song for the end credits gave me a chance to return to the world of Wildwood in a different way. There’s something particularly meaningful about having music accompany the audience as they leave the forest and the story comes to a close.”

Take care, don’t forget Palestine and keep fighting those fascists, even if it’s just by buying a Sally Rooney book. See you next week.

Americana UK has ongoing running costs. If you have enjoyed reading this post, please consider supporting us for £2.99 a month.
