Philadelphia rapper Armani White continues to carve out his own lane with the release of ‘KIDSUPER FREESTYLE.’, a vibrant new offering that sees him slow things down without sacrificing any of his trademark lyrical sharpness. Continuing his ArmaniWTF era, the track serves as both a showcase of his versatility and a heartfelt tribute to fashion brand KidSuper, which has played a significant role in his creative journey.
The accompanying visual takes viewers inside KidSuper’s headquarters, bringing the brand’s colourful, unconventional aesthetic to life. Featuring founder Colm Dillane, the video captures the playful creativity that has become synonymous with both the fashion house and Armani’s artistic identity. Reflecting on their relationship, Armani recalls how the brand supported him during the filming of his breakout hit ‘BILLIE EILISH.’, even sending him clothes when he had nothing to wear.
Following recent release ‘COST.’, the freestyle offers another glimpse into Armani’s forthcoming project, with the rapper continuing to build anticipation through his ongoing Spilled Milk series and a collection of imaginative short films. Having already amassed over 9.2 billion global streams thanks to tracks including ‘BILLIE EILISH.’ and ‘GOATED.’, Armani White is showing no signs of slowing down. With ‘KIDSUPER FREESTYLE.’, he brings music, fashion and storytelling together, further cementing his reputation as one of hip hop’s most inventive personalities.
Armani White sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:
1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?
I used to write songs on the back of the programming pamphlets in Church. Then from there I started writing stories that went with my favorite cartoon characters and making songs from their perspective. It made me fall in love with how imaginative I could be with literature and storytelling. It became a full on escape from the real world.
2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?
Janelle Monae, Kanye West, Andre 3000, Eminem.
3. What projects do you have coming up and can you give us any info on them?
I made a mixtape called armaniWTF. It’s inspired by how the world sounded in 2007. And when I first started to record myself and we didn’t have any plug ins so you just had to double your vocals, hahaha. That’s where all these recent songs have been coming from.
4. How would you describe your sound?
2007. It looks, sounds, and feels like 2007.
5. What’s your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?
My grandpop was on hospice and I bought my grandpop an iPad so he could watch me perform from his bed still.
