Italian house heavyweight Piero Pirupa, Dutch producer Thomas Newson and Baltimore rapper Deetranada have joined forces for ‘Throw It Up’, a high octane club anthem released via Toolroom Records.
Built around driving house grooves, infectious hooks and a thunderous bassline, the track brings together Pirupa and Newson’s dancefloor expertise with Deetranada’s razor sharp flow and unmistakable attitude. Having first made her mark as a teenage finalist on Jermaine Dupri’s The Rap Game, the Baltimore native has since carved out her own lane in hip hop, with her hometown’s rich club culture playing a key role in shaping her sound.
Blurring the lines between house, hip hop and Baltimore club, ‘Throw It Up’ is an unapologetic dancefloor weapon, packed with energy and primed to cause serious damage across clubs and festival stages.
Deetranada sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:
1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?
My love for poetry and needing a positive outlet to voice my emotions! My parents had a cd collection that I used to go through and caught my inspiration from DMX, Wu-Tang, Lauryn Hill, Nicki Minaj and so many more, but that made me translate my poetry over to raps.
2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?
Rico Nasty, Erykah Badu, and Ms Heaven.
3. What projects do you have coming up and can you give us any info on them?
I just dropped my album “NADA THIS NADA THAT”! 16 songs straight bangers, I recommend everybody give it a listen if you want to hear more high energy raps from me!
4. How would you describe your sound?
Unapologetic.
5. What’s your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?
Probably the BET hip hop Awards cypher. It broadcast not only myself, but my city to national TV. An amazing feeling, especially when that was an achievement I wanted to have under my belt since I was a little girl.
