DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH: The Sunspots – Cut To The Chase

The Sunspots Cut To The ChaseIn this new entry in our ‘Diamonds In The Rough’ category, we would like to introduce you to upcoming band The Sunspots and their brand new single titled “Cut To The Chase”.

A blast of sunshine, soul, and irresistible groove has arrived with the release of “Cut To The Chase,” the debut single from Southern California outfit The Sunspots. Overflowing with vibrant horns, uplifting melodies, and timeless soul influences, the track captures the spirit of an era when music brought people together in celebration of love, peace, and freedom.

From the very first note, “Cut To The Chase” transports listeners to a summer festival in 1967, where dancing barefoot in the grass and singing along with friends felt like the only things that mattered. Designed as an escape from the pressures of everyday life, the song encourages listeners to let go of their worries, embrace the moment, and move to its infectious rhythm.

The project began when Lewis Richards, owner of 17th Street Recording in Costa Mesa, California, approached vocalist Christian Erik with a collection of soul-inspired songs. Recognizing the potential of the material, Erik stepped into the studio and delivered a passionate vocal performance that became the heart and soul of the record. His expressive delivery is complemented by a powerful horn section that injects warmth, energy, and classic soul swagger into every chorus.

Adding another special dimension to the track is the captivating contribution of 13-year-old vocal prodigy Saydee Cleo, whose background vocals bring an undeniable magic to the recording. Richards also handled the mixing and mastering duties, ensuring every instrument and vocal shines while maintaining the organic feel that defines the song.

The Sunspots are powered by an impressive lineup of musicians. Lewis Richards serves as guitarist, bassist, keyboardist, songwriter, producer, and creative driving force behind the project. A respected figure within the Orange County music scene, Richards has worked alongside notable acts including The Dirty Heads, Sugar Ray, and Fortunate Youth. Lead vocalist and co-songwriter Christian Erik brings years of studio experience and soulful authenticity to the band’s sound. Completing the core lineup is drummer and percussionist Zeb Dekofsky of Tribal Seeds, a lifelong musician whose dynamic playing provides the perfect rhythmic foundation. The recording is further enriched by talented family members and friends who contribute their own musical expertise.

Drawing inspiration from soul legends such as James Brown, Otis Redding, Sam & Dave, and modern torchbearers St. Paul and the Broken Bones, The Sunspots successfully blend classic soul traditions with a fresh Southern California perspective. The result is a sound that feels both nostalgic and contemporary; a celebration of musicianship, positivity, and the enduring power of great songs.

With “Cut To The Chase”, The Sunspots make a memorable introduction, delivering a debut single that feels tailor-made for summer playlists, festival stages, and anyone searching for a soundtrack to brighter days. Full of heart, groove, and uplifting energy, the track marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the band.
