Nigerian Canadian singer songwriter Riwo is back with “Hero Girl,” a soulful new single that blends R&B, pop, and contemporary Afrobeats while exploring the pressure of feeling responsible for everyone else’s happiness.
Inspired by reflections on a past relationship, Hero Girl is rooted in empathy and reminds listeners that love isn’t about carrying the weight of the world alone. With rich vocals, infectious rhythms, and a sound influenced by artists like Tems, the track balances emotional honesty with an uplifting groove.
The single marks the third release from Riwo’s upcoming sophomore album, continuing her evolution as an artist known for heartfelt songwriting and powerful vocal arrangements.
Originally from Nigeria and now based in Edmonton, Alberta, Riwo has established herself as a respected voice in Canada’s soul and Afro-fusion scene. Since relocating to Canada in 2015, she’s collaborated with artists including Titilope Sonuga, Martin Kerr, Jully Black, and The Melisizwe Brothers, while also fronting Edmonton Afro-fusion band Melafrique.
