Niki Kini Forecasts Disco-Pop Escapism On Weatherman

Niki Kini brings humour back to pop with Weatherman, a disco-funk single inspired by Britain’s most unreliable recurring character: the weather.

The track pairs bright grooves with tongue-in-cheek observations about rain, heat, commuting and collective UK misery. Rather than forcing a heavy message, Niki leans into everyday frustration and turns it into something playful, immediate and highly relatable. She explains:

This song is genuinely a lot of fun and based on basically everyday real-life scenarios in the UK.

That lightness is central to Niki’s wider identity. Since debuting in 2019, she has explored relationships, adulthood, self-belief and racist abuse without losing the humour that makes her writing feel personal rather than preachy.

On Weatherman, the focus shifts fully toward escapism. Niki shares…

I remember distinctly complaining about the fact that even when it’s raining in London, you get all hot and sweaty going from place to place. It’s like the whole country — or at least London — is utterly miserable because of the weather.

Backed by performances at Reading Festival, BBC Asian Network support and hundreds of thousands of EP streams, Niki has built a dedicated audience around personality as much as sound.

Weatherman understands that pop does not always need to carry the weight of the world. Sometimes listeners just need a groove, a joke and somewhere to hide until the forecast sorts itself out.
