meelu, originally from Kommetjie, South Africa, is the type of artist that is massive in another country, yet is not well known outside of it…. a tender, atmospheric alt-folk rock gem.The South African singer-songwriter has delivered an incredibly tender and deeply moving track with lots of alt-rock moments mixed in with acoustic textures and licks of folk for good measure. If you like the sound of Holly Humberstone and Phoebe Bridges, then this new offering called “candlelight” is going to be right up your street.I especially liked the bass line in the breakdown. It’s something that is probably not going…
Persephone Darke is based in Seattle, WA, and the new song “Song Title” is a cinematic example of stunning vocals and soul. One thing that will be immediately evident from the get-go is the vocals. It is staggeringly only the second release from the outfit, but if you ask me, this sounds like it has all the hallmarks of a modern soul classic….a spellbinding slice of modern soulWith fewer than 200 monthly listeners on Spotify, I’m absolutely baffled that this song is not going viral, as it has everything going for it. It features smooth bass lines and crisp, slow…
After more than a year out of the spotlight, Ruben Dumars returns with a sharp reminder of his evolving sound on new single Hurt Hearts, featuring Agent Sixx.Built on a synth heavy intro that quickly gives way to a punchy, old school backbeat, “Hurt Hearts” thrives on contrast. Dumars blends classic hip hop textures with a more experimental, alternative edge, creating something that feels both nostalgic and forward thinking. His signature approach, layered production, gritty guitar tones, and fluid genre crossover, is fully on display here. The track’s creation was anything but conventional. Dumars recorded the instrumental before connecting with Agent…

The Kid LAROI reactivates with new single I CONDEMN. The track marks his first release since January’s BEFORE I FORGET, functioning as a transition point into the next phase of his catalogue cycle. Structurally, the rollout moves with zero gap. Live visibility feeding directly into release timing, keeping audience attention locked between performance and platform. The drop lands just ahead of A PERFECT WORLD TOUR, launching April 27 in Fort Lauderdale, with dates across North America and Asia before moving…

Get ready for your new addiction. Karobela (pronounced Ka-ro-bella) are back, and they are bringing all the massive hooks, driving rhythms, and soaring vocals needed to ensure they stay in your head for days. The band has just dropped their latest single, “Love Letter To No One”, and it’s a masterclass in their signature “fearsome” sound.Blending alternative rock and indie with sharp pop and dance elements, the band continues to carve out a hugely individual niche. It’s a rare thing when music is this accessible yet remains genuinely intelligent, but the quartet has nailed that balance in fine style. Having…

Originally published in Uncut, November 2013 Last year during his keynote speech at SXSW, Bruce Springsteen announced that “We’ve Gotta Get Out Of This Place” was “every song I’ve ever written. All of them.” Springsteen, who has been performing The Animals’ 1965 single for decades, most recently this summer in Cardiff with Eric Burdon, is far from alone in recognising himself in a powerful, protean anthem to personal transformation. This portrait of the tyranny of work, the lurking shadow of death and the desperate desire to escape to “a better life” has spoken to generations. Troops serving in Vietnam, both…
