Well that’s it from us for this week, and what a sad week it’s been for not just the americana and country communities but for, well human decency. Plaudits can be cloying when someone moves on from this world but Dolly Parton was one of those rare human beings it was genuinely difficult to find anyone say anything bad about. There has been a lot written about her in recent days including of course our own obit earlier today but for me Billy Bragg perhaps summed it up best when he said in The Guardian: “We’ve lost someone who was an embodiment of a type of American exceptionalism that has been eclipsed by the Trump carnival of people who say: “Empathy is toxic.” She was the opposite of that. Her faith was based on the idea that, as she once said: “I just want everybody to be treated good.” That quote came from someone asking her about anti-trans legislation in her home state of Tennessee. She didn’t hedge it. She went on to say: “We are all God’s children and how we are is who we are.” She didn’t stop at trans people, or American people, or white people. She extended that to everybody… She really was the best of us.” Boy could we do with some more of that in the world right now.
