Christopher Coe & Carl Coxs Awesome Soundwave Continues Evolution With New Event Series ASW Live – Electric Mode

Founded by Carl Cox and Christopher Coe in 2018, Awesome Soundwave has spent the past eight years championing artists who create and perform electronic music live. The label now enters a new chapter with the launch of ASW Live, alongside its forthcoming release schedule.

Built around a commitment to live electronic performance, Awesome Soundwave releases music from artists who use improvisation, experimentation and technology as central parts of their creative process. Rather than defining itself by a particular genre, the label focuses on artists pushing the boundaries of live electronic music.

That philosophy is now being brought directly to audiences through ASW Live, a new series of live events bringing together Awesome Soundwave artists and local artists in venues selected for immersive underground electronic music experiences.

    Christopher CoeComments:

“In the 8 years we have been running we have released over 80 titles from such a diverse range of amazing live electronic artists, we have done many live jams around the world and some incredible events from Mysteryland to Awakenings to London’s Wembley Arena, from a season residency at DC10 in Ibiza to impromptu live jams at clubs like Revolver in Melbourne and Sala Sonora in Bilbao. Featuring artists from the lesser known Charlie Thorstenson and An On Bast to legends such as Marc Romboy and Octave One and so many others has been such a privilege.”

ASW Live launches in Ireland and Northern Ireland with two events featuring live performances from Phil Kieran and Christopher Coe. The first, which is a free entry event, takes place on 28th August at Pawn Shop in Dublin, followed by Belfast on 29th August at The Ulster Sports Club.

Phil Kieran’s career spans three decades and includes work across electronic music, film composition and projects including Le Carousel and Alloy Mental. For the ASW Live performances, Kieran will revisit material from across his catalogue through a live performance built around synthesis and real-time manipulation of hardware, while Christopher Coe brings his own improvised approach to live Techno, performing with Eurorack modular systems.

Both performances reflect Awesome Soundwave’s focus on live electronic music, with the emphasis on artists creating and performing their music live rather than presenting conventional DJ sets. The series will continue in October with a special Ibiza performance featuring Sebastian Mullaert, Christopher Coe and Stimming, coming together for a live session in a unique location, with details to be announced soon. Further ASW Live events are planned in locations around the world, continuing the series’ focus on live electronic performance.

    Christopher CoeShares:

“With Carl having gone out on the road for the last three years almost exclusively with his live show, and with our constant support of live artists, I feel we have explored so much about the live experience. And yet, it feels like we are only beginning. There seems to be more interest than ever in live shows and the excitement of live presentation. We felt it was time to return to the smaller venue experience, where we can genuinely connect with audiences and showcase more local live artists. With ASW Live, we want to create that underground feeling again, where anything can happen and the music can be wild and free. We really do love playing live.”

Alongside the development of ASW Live, Awesome Soundwave is continuing its release schedule with the forthcoming ‘Holds The Sky’ album from Sebastian Mullaert and Tamarma. The project is a further demonstration of Awesome Soundwave’s focus on artists working across electronic and experimental music.

The album brings together Swedish composer and producer Sebastian Mullaert and Georgian composer, vocalist and electronic artist Tamarma, reflecting the collaborative approach at the heart of Awesome Soundwave. Following the release of ‘Being Colours’ and Sebastian’s rework of title track, ‘Holds The Sky’, the full album is set for release on 25th September.

Christopher Coe is a Melbourne-born, Irish-raised electronic artist and Techno producer whose career has taken him from underground clubs and festivals to more experimental settings. He has performed at festivals including Kappa Futur, Awakenings and Glastonbury, as well as holding a residency at DC-10 Ibiza. His Modular Lounge project explores modular synthesis and electronic experimentation, while his Worlds End series has seen him create live recordings from remote Irish islands.

With ASW Live and the label’s forthcoming releases, Awesome Soundwave is continuing to develop the approach that has defined the label since its creation, supporting artists who use electronic music as a live and evolving form of performance.
