The single arrives alongside news of Bawo’s new EP, Surf’s Up, landing September 25th via Say Nothing Records. Built around his “come what may” approach to life’s highs and lows, the project finds Bawo pushing his musicality further, bringing live instrumentation, melody and his own production increasingly into the mix. Collaborators across the EP include Ken Samson, Max Beecher, Midnight Phunk, Mac Wetha, Jam City and Swedish producer boerd, helping Bawo expand the adventurous sound heard across previous projects Legitimate Cause and It Means Hope Where I’m From. As Bawo puts it, “I’m excited to expand on my musicality… I’m absorbing myself in the music a little bit more.” With ‘Shelloff’ delivering an immediate burst of grime fuelled energy, Surf’s Up looks set to open another intriguing chapter for one of UK rap’s most versatile voices.
