Crazy James Announces New Single “Higher Learning Berlin”, Out Now.
Crazy James returns on 20 July with Higher Learning Berlin, a high energy UK rap and electronic crossover inspired by a whirlwind trip to Germany’s capital.
Written and recorded at Berlin’s DNA Arts studio while performing at two events in the city, the track captures the rush of an artist stepping onto a bigger international stage. Blending sharp UK rap flows with atmospheric electronic production influenced by Berlin’s nightlife, Higher Learning Berlin explores growth, ambition and the realities that come with success, from industry politics to the pressure of being seen as a token rather than an artist.
Sonically, the record pairs driving percussion and nocturnal techno textures with James’ confident, fast paced delivery, creating a sound that feels both underground and expansive.
Originally from Luton and now based in Milton Keynes, Crazy James has built a loyal independent following, earning support from BBC Introducing and recognition from Aesthetica as one of its artists to watch. His music has amassed more than 4.5 million YouTube views and over 675,000 Spotify streams, while live performances have taken him across the UK and Europe.
Crazy James sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 1o Questions:
1. How did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?
It all started when I first watched Michael Jackson perform at the Motown anniversary, age 4. I became obsessed and locked myself in a room practising his every move until I performed for the first time at a school show in Ghana, in front of 2,000 people. Things are different in Africa, when there’s a school show, the whole community comes out and supports it. Hearing the crowd erupt and cheer for minutes after I stopped dancing was an incredible feeling. From there I always knew I wanted to do something involving music or dance. Rapping came by accident in a lot of ways, after admitting to myself I didn’t have the range to sing, I thought I’d try rapping. Around 2002/2003, when the US hip hop scene was turning a new leaf, I got immediately obsessed with The Eminem Show and 50 Cent’s mixtapes, which led me to Get Rich or Die Tryin’ and everything after that.
2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in future?
Michael Jackson and Eminem are my benchmark. For collabs, Ocean Wisdom would be a dope one, also Kofi Stone or Lord Apex.
3. What projects do you have coming up?
The new LP drops 19th September. Before that there’s two music videos and single releases, a new podcast interview with Reels Story, a promotional project with Rap Ville, and the album launch party on 22nd August.
4. How would you describe your sound?
Sharp, cinematic and built on honesty, UK rap and grime with storytelling at the centre, made to hit just as hard in a small room as it does through headphones.
5. What’s your proudest moment so far?
I’ve got a few. Being selected as one of the 10 UK artists to watch in 2026, and performing across Europe over the last six years. But honestly there are loads, sometimes you forget how much you’ve achieved until you actually sit back and reflect on the milestones.
