Maia Sudha – Inconsistent (Single) + 10 Questions

Nottingham-based rising artist Maia Sudha introduces herself with her debut single ‘Inconsistent’, a beautifully intimate blend of neo-soul, R&B and pop that has already surpassed 80,000 streams since its independent release on 18 September.

Built around stripped back instrumentation and Maia’s rich, soulful vocals, ‘Inconsistent’ explores the vulnerability of new love, overthinking and breaking free from toxic habits. With its late night atmosphere and diary like honesty, the track offers a promising introduction to an artist unafraid to wear her heart on her sleeve.

“This song was written for anyone who is still figuring it out,” Maia explains. “It’s essentially a diary entry of me overthinking everything, and admitting that I don’t have all the answers yet.”

Already earning support from BBC Introducing’s Dean Jackson, Maia is building momentum through a genuine connection with her growing fanbase, even sending handwritten thank you packages to early supporters. With appearances at Nottingham’s Hockley Hustle festival also on the agenda, ‘Inconsistent’ marks an exciting first chapter for this emerging talent.

Maia Sudha sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:

    1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?

I grew up listening to artists like Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey and Christina Aguilera and sang along in the car with my Mum on the way to school. Since then I haven’t really stopped singing! It has always been an outlet for me, so I knew music would be a big part of my life.

    2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?

A few of my biggest influences and inspirations are Olivia Dean, Alicia Keys and Ariana Grande. If I got to work with any of them it would be an absolute dream come true!

3.What projects do you have coming up and can you give us any info on them?

My debut single ‘Inconsistent’is coming out on the 18th of September, which I’m so excited about. I’ve also been busy in the studioworking on some new tracks, which I hope to share in the near future.

    4. How would you describe your sound?

I’d describe my sound as a mixture of pop and soul, combining strong vocals with powerful storytelling.

    5. What’s your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?

I’m so proud that BBC Introducing shared my debut single, which received airtime on daytime shows across the East Midlands. The feedback has already been so positive so I can’t wait to share it with the world!
