Glasgow’s premier purveyors of art-pop flamboyance, Walt Disco, have returned with their first new music since 2024’s The Warping. The new single, “Coup de foudre,” marks a bold new chapter for the band, arriving as their debut release under the newly minted EMI North label.
Meaning “bolt of love” or “love at first sight,” “Coup de foudre” trades the orchestral grandeur of their recent work for a high-velocity rush of 2000s dancefloor intensity. Vocalist Jocelyn Si describes the track as “horny and chaotic,” channeling the raw energy of early Yeah Yeah Yeahs into a euphoric, three-minute jolt. The track signals a more immediate, guitar-driven era for the band – a pivot born from a period of lineup changes and personal evolution, including Jocelyn beginning her journey with HRT.
The signing to the Leeds-based EMI North underscores the band’s rising status following a string of high-profile arena supports and successive Scottish Album of the Year nominations. To celebrate the release, the quintet will preview new material this week at The Great Escape Festival in Brighton before embarking on a run of intimate UK headline shows throughout June and July.
