Open Mike Eagle and Kenny Segal have shared their new single “She Swear I’m Colourblind”, linking up with underground hip hop heavyweight billy woods for the latest taste of their forthcoming collaborative project, DOOMED!.
Inspired by an argument over the colour of a rental car, the track turns relationship friction into something characteristically offbeat and darkly funny, with Diego Gaeta adding Rhodes piano alongside saxophone and flute from Aaron Shaw. It sets the tone for DOOMED!, which arrives on 14th August via Backwoodz Studioz and is described as the world’s first “half whimsical break up album”.
Despite a friendship and creative relationship stretching back almost two decades, DOOMED! marks the first full length project from Eagle and Segal. Five years in the making, the album takes the misunderstandings, arguments and eventual collapse of a relationship and twists them into an absurdist black comedy, with Eagle finding himself with plenty to write about just as the pair began properly building the record.
