Junction 2’s decision to spread its 10th anniversary celebrations across different dates worked well, with the 25th July J2 x fabric edition feeling both impressive in scale and surprisingly intimate. Despite the huge production, the crowd retained a niche, underground feel that suited the fabric collaboration perfectly. The Woods delivered a unique festival atmosphere, with the setting among the trees adding something genuinely special. Gabrielle Kwarteng b2b Peach were a standout, particularly as the sun began to set through the trees. Their set felt almost magical, weaving in UK influences throughout while maintaining the energy and unpredictability of the day.…
In 2009, a full 40 years after the death of the Rolling Stones’ founding guitarist, the respected Reuters news agency released a story that was picked up by thousands of publications around the world. Every few years, a new witness, suspect, documentary, book or podcast emerges promising to solve the mystery once and for all. None has managed it. Instead, each fresh theory only adds another layer to…

Based in Lund, Sweden, Untold Jukebox takes an impressively unusual route into AOR, with the artist blending 18th-century military history with the smooth, polished sounds of late-70s and 80s West Coast rock….a nostalgic, soulful AOR journey packed with smooth vocals and 70s-inspired grooves.”Rehnskiölds Fraustadt Strategy” is a six-and-a-half-minute-long track with some breezy 70s and 80s tones that almost remind me of Dire Straits in places. I also loved how smooth the vocals were and how this felt like a step back in time for me, as I grew up with this kind of music in the mid-90s whilst sitting in…

The performance that night was due…
You are back with a new film, Noblestone. What’s it about, and what made you want to return to the quirky caretaker character of Karen, and how did you approach evolving her story this time around?Noblestone is about an eccentric housemaid who is hired to live with a self-absorbed artist. The film features the return of ‘Karen’ the housemaid, who played a very similar role in my last feature, and had appeared before then in a few short films. I suppose Karen is less deranged here. Previously, she was much closer to a traditional horror villain. Here, she remains as creepy…
An impressive modern folk debut where creativity shines through.London-based Dan Pye is a creative individual. Alongside Room 7, on the 7th, his debut album, he has produced films, zines, handmade copper etchings, a diptych and self-designed T-shirts. The album launched with a sold-out show at The Phoenix Arts Club in Soho. It is an album of modern folk songs; he calls it indie-folk, which grows very nicely on you with time. One might even call it folk-pop, with a number of tracks being rather catchy. The best example is the breezy, swinging love song Josephine, which is the nearest to…
Photos by Senor McGuireCraft Recordings re-release two remastered ground-breaking bluegrass albums, one long out of print, and both on CD for the first timeIn the mid-1970s, bluegrass music was evolving from the traditional ensemble acoustic playing of artists such as Bill Monroe, Ralph Stanley and Flatt and Scruggs, and it was ripe for a step forward into the future. Two albums released at the time stepped up to the plate and essentially changed the way bluegrass music was played, laying the groundwork for the bluegrass superstars that followed and continued to develop the genre, about which more later.JD Crowe was…
