Photo by Matt LudinAlmost there! There was never much doubt that John Prine would be represented in this list, and, although a number of his songs appeared in the original writers’ lists, the iconic and most covered song of his has duly found its place, at No. 2. Two writers voted it No 1.In the late 60s, when Prine was in his early 20s, he was delivering to a Baptist old people’s home and was sufficiently moved to write a song about old people and disadvantaged people on his epic song Hello In There. It appeared on his debut album 3…
HEALTH have released a new single, A.L.O.N.E. Giving off some very cool Twin Peaks vibes, particularly in the intro, it’s no surprise to hear from vocalist/guitarist Jake Duzsik that, “We wrote this song immediately after David Lynch died, which at the time felt significant. “Then it ended up coming out much later and it seems to have lost almost any meaningful connection to that event, even for me. There is some sort of life lesson in there but I’m not sure what it is.” The track is taken from the trio’s forthcoming EP ADDENDUM, which is due out on April…

Australian maverick Daevid Allen was a key conspirator in the first incarnation of the legendary Soft Machine, who came together in Kent in 1966. But before they could record their debut album, Allen left to form Gong in France, after being denied re-entry to the UK following a European tour. Now, a decade after his death, Allen makes a ghostly appearance with his old band. “I was in Gong between 1999 and 2010,” explains saxophonist Theo Travis, who has also been in the Soft Machine fold for the past 20 years. “I recently uncovered a recording I made in 2001…

London-based alt-R&B/pop artist Tala Yunis enters a new chapter with her sophomore EP All IN TIME, arriving ahead of the EP is her latest single, “God’s Favourite.” It feels less like a milestone and more like a quiet statement of self-belief.Yunis has been steadily building momentum, with her music featured in Love Is Blind and Ginny & Georgia, but what sets her apart is her story. The Moshville Times – Festival Review: Takedown 2026 Day 1 – Portsmouth Guildhall (3rd April 2026)
Blacklight Vice (c) Steve DulsonPortsmouth Guildhall is the perfect venue for Takedown Festival, and it really defines the meaning of a ‘takeover’ event. The main hall served as the Phil Campbell Kerrang! (PCK) Stage this year, supplemented by two smaller performance areas, one of which—The Total Rock Café Stage (TRC)—is usually the café. The press room was hidden away in the maze of the Portsmouth Music Experience Exhibition. Apart from that, we were well looked after in terms of facilities, sharing the green room with the performers. I found it very surreal making small talk with the likes of Milkie…

An American freelance reporter kidnapped in Iraq has been released after days of uncertainty, according to multiple sources familiar with the situation. Shelly Kittleson, 49, was taken on March 31 from a busy street in central Baghdad. Officials in both the U.S. and Iraq had pointed to the Iran-backed militia Kataib Hezbollah as responsible. About a week later, the group announced it would free her, saying she must leave the country immediately. In a statement, a spokesperson said Kittleson’s release came “in appreciation of the patriotic positions” of Iraq’s prime minister, Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, who had been involved in efforts…
