Good Evening, Hippies – and welcome to this months FREE Uncut CD, curated by Robert Fripp! – UNCUT
ROBERT FRIPP: “[Panegyric label head] Declan Colgan told [Fripp’s manager] David Singleton: ‘Robert has more ampersands in his professional life than anyone I know!’ We went through three iterations of this CD – a David version, a Declan version, and then I made my own comments, and we have this CD that you have. Primarily this is stuff that I want to sit down and listen to. How do we begin? How do we get drawn into this? And then in the middle, when everything sags, what do you do there? And then at the end, well, how do you…
ILLAMAN and One Over Zero return with “Au Revoir”, the second single taken from their forthcoming collaborative project “Thanks, I’ve Been Dave” (out 29.05.26). Blending razor sharp lyricism with rich, cinematic production, the track captures the duo’s unmistakable chemistry, balancing introspection, energy and atmosphere in equal measure.Following the momentum of their first release, “Au Revoir” pushes the sound further, with ILLAMAN’s commanding delivery sitting effortlessly over One Over Zero’s textured and immersive production. The result is a track that feels both deeply personal and sonically expansive, hinting at the depth still to come from the project. One Over Zero are a…
How Long Till I Know? is all about unshackling oneself from the chains of society – their expectations, their judgement. It’s about that moment when you reach a crossroads and you don’t know which path to take – one might lead you to the change you want, the other might lead you back to where you started from. But the core message here is “stand in your truth, be brave, hold your head high and don’t let anything hold you back”. Deciding to sing/write this song partially in Italian wasn’t necessarily a conscious choice – I’d never done so, but…
Rotterdam producerAfrohamis back on Melting Pot Music with ‘Portrait of Self,’ a slow burning rap track built around the voice of Texas MCDominick Giovanni. It’s the latest step in a steady run of releases from Afroham, who announced himself to a wider audience with his debut EPQuantum Love(MPM, 2023). Equal parts neo-soul, hip hop, and lofi, it found its people and stuck. On ‘Portrait of Self,’ mellow production meets introspective bars as Dominick Giovanni delivers verses shaped by movement, growth, and lived experience. Raised in a military family and constantly relocating, the New York born MC channels that perspective into sharp, reflective…
Thin Lear: Many Disappeared (First City Artists)LP | DLOut NowFrom the foremost Poet of the Broken Heart and cosmopolitan musician’s musician, we are presented with collected reports of the life less travelled, resulting in this brief yet epic journey into the days of wine and roses. MK Bennett settles in.So I didn’t know really who was kissing me for the very first instant but now I knew and knew everything more than ever, as, grace-wise, she descended to me from the upper dark where I’d thought only cold could be..Maggie Cassidy – Jack KerouacThis man’s brilliance really needs to be…
Spring is set to be a defining moment for Miami-based Venezuelan/Lebanese artist Amal Nemer, with a new release and a major debut performance happening within weeks of each other. Nemer teams up with internationally acclaimed producer TWENTY SIX for ‘Besame Lento’, out May 22 via Mood Child Records. The track is a warm, rolling house sound for summer, with sun-soaked grooves, subtle melodies, and a sensual lead vocal. The melancholy horn details add depth, balancing emotion, rhythm and late-night energy on the record. The release is on Mood Child, the label founded by Sirus Hood and Manda Moor, who won…

Watch a video for the first single “My Life In England Pt 1” below: Says Kevin Rowland: “We put out a version…
Paul speaks his mind, and (John Lennon voice) minds his Speke I wrote about the new Paul album for the new issue of Uncut, and for the latest Uncut Greats which is out next week. It’s a really good record. Or, as I say more formally here: In among the many key 20thcentury artists that Paul McCartney has in his collection – we’re thinking alongside the paintings by Magritte and de Kooning – he also has an extensive collection of Paul McCartney. The classic Beatles instruments, which he acquires when Abbey Road want more space in the cupboard. His old…
10 things we learned…Uncut is the oldest here by about 40 years…which isn’t always the way when the music is melancholic Americana and slamming indie rock, as it is with Mitski. A Dead Oceans artist – as is Phoebe Bridgers – Mitski has pulled in a devoted fandom of empathetic youth to her dark vignettes.People are catching on at different speedsOdd to relate but on the same tour that she sells out the 6000 capacity Albert Hall in about ten minutes, she also played the New Music stage at Radio 1’s Big Weekend. She’s been doing record shop pop ups.…

Introducing the new Uncut: Kate Bush, Cream, a Robert Fripp CD, R.E.M., The Specials and more! – UNCUT
You can read my report on page 100, but I was in Ireland at the start of May for the Kilkenny Roots Festival. Alongside established greats like Jody Stephens leading the Big Star Quintet and Rodney Crowell, the festival also provided a brilliant opportunity to sample plenty of upcoming bands. I wasn’t alone in having my head spun by Florry – as heard on last year’s Sounds Of The New West Vol 7, and a wild and vivid force live. It strikes me that one of the best parts of this job is discovery – hearing new music and sharing…
XCOMM have dropped ferocious new single ‘PIRATES’ featuring Ghostemane, arriving as the final warning shot before the release of their debut album ‘Time To Burn’. Credit: Darren Graig The Venice Beach hardcore outfit’s first full-length record lands May 22 via Blowed Out Records, and if ‘PIRATES’ is anything to go by, it’s going to hit like a brick through a windscreen. Produced by legendary producer Ross Robinson, whose résumé includes landmark releases from Korn, Slipknot, Glassjaw and At the Drive-In — ‘Time To Burn’ captures XCOMM at their most volatile: loud, messy, funny and completely out of control in the…
