Born in London and raised across Uganda, Ethiopia and the United States, Nanseera draws on her global upbringing to deliver thoughtful songwriting with real emotional weight. Written in a single sitting after weeks of searching for the right words, Poison Rain balances its apocalyptic atmosphere with a sense of hope, while highlighting the importance of protecting civil rights. Speaking on the track, Nanseera explains: “Poison Rain was written in response to the US Supreme Court’s recent decision to significantly weaken the Voting Rights Act… Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg said throwing out anti-discrimination laws that are working is like ‘throwing away your umbrella in a rainstorm because you are not getting wet.'”
The single arrives ahead of a second release and a full length album later this year, with Nanseera also set to take the songs on the road with a string of East Coast US dates before heading to the West Coast in October.
